Update From Kinder Morgan – Re: Vegetation Maintenance Project

Neighbours, you may have noticed trees and brush being marked with signs and flagging along the pipeline right of way through the neighbourhood. Kinder Morgan has started their Vegetation Maintenance Project in the Westridge-Wolf Willow-Country Club community. Please read the information below from Kinder Morgan. Any comments or concerns should be sent to Kinder Morgan directly. This website will be updated when more information becomes available.

Kinder Morgan Canada’s Update on Vegetation Maintenance
As part of its ongoing pipeline safety and damage prevention program, Kinder Morgan Canada (KMC) will be completing vegetation maintenance through North Saskatchewan River Valley on the Trans Mountain pipeline right-of-way. The timeframe for this work is yet to be determined. Vegetation maintenance will include brush cutting and selective tree removal on the right-of-way in your area. Please refer to the attached map for more details. We will provide further updates on this maintenance project as soon as the information becomes available.

A pipeline right-of-way is a strip of land typically 18 metres wide containing one or more buried pipelines. Excessive and overgrown vegetation on the right-of-way can pose a risk to public safety. The vegetation management work is an important part of our damage prevention program that ensures safe and reliable pipeline operations and compliance with all applicable regulations. Regulations require that we maintain a clearly marked right-of-way, free of trees and tall growing vegetation. These measures help prevent damage to the pipe, ensure public safety, and provide access for aerial and ground inspection, maintenance and repairs, and emergency response.

Our approach will be phased. We are currently focused on dealing with the natural vegetation growth in the River Valley area. In the remaining areas, we are still in a planning stage trying to assess what exactly needs to be done to mitigate both the risks to the pipeline safety and impacts to the community. Once we’ve developed an initial plan, we will continue to work with the City and further seek to notify and consult with affected landowners and neighbours to work out the details. We will keep you informed throughout the process. Please check your community league’s website regularly for further updates.
KMC conducts its work under Environmental Protection and Emergency Response plans to ensure it complies with all applicable environmental requirements.

If you have further questions or would like to receive more information about this work, please contact Barry Whillans at (587) 999-6677 or email Kinder Morgan External Relations
