WARNING!! -> Coyotes

Just a heads up to everyone in the WWWCCCL area.

The coyotes in the area are becoming more aggressive and comfortable around people. There have been several encounters in the past few weeks. Walking by the park near the community league hall we got within 20ft of a coyote before he sauntered back into the woods. Another resident had a close encounter with a pack of coyotes yesterday along the Patricia Heights/Westridge ravine.

Keep safe everyone and call the City of Edmonton (311) to report any coyote encounter.

Speed Reduction Pilot Complete

Thanks to all who provided feedback to the 40KM/Hr speed reduction pilot. The speed limits in WWWCCCL have been reverted back to 50KM/Hr.

City Of Edmonton 40km/hr Speed Limit Pilot Project

A few board members recently met with Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) regarding the 40km/hr pilot project. Some key points from the meeting:

  • Speeds did decrease an average of 4km in our community
  • When the speed limit was 50km we had 61% compliancy – 39% of our community speeds
  • When the speed limit was 40km we had 35% compliancy – meaning, less people drove the 40km limit
  • There was an anomaly of a huge increase of major accidents in the community during the test period.
  • Findings also indicated that our large road design does increase speed and dangerous driving.

Speed Reduction Pilot Project Report

What happens now?

In the next two weeks all households in the neighbourhood will receive a letter speaking to the pilot project. Banister research will then be contacting random people in the community in respect to their opinion if we should keep the 40km or go back to 50km speed limit. The survey results will be presented to council and each individual community will be determined by these results if they stay or are revised.

What can YOU do to get involved and have your opinion heard?

Fill out our online feedback form. Your feedback is appreciated and will be reviewed by the board.
